Ecological action is our commitment
In our mission statement, we have committed ourselves to ecological action with regard to the environment. We include ecological aspects when we set our corporate objectives. In real terms this means that products and services are produced and provided with the minimum impact on the environment. In detail, this means:
Raw materials
In manufacturing our products, materials to be used are particularly those that can be recycled once they have served their purpose.
Paper
We exclusively process papers which have been made of cellulose bleached without the use of chlorine. We have been FSC-certified since 2004 and use FSC-certified paper for our Elco premium envelope range and on customer request. Seetal Elco was the first envelope manufacturer in Switzerland to receive the FSC certificate. In the meantime, FSC certification has become a must also in the graphical industry.
Printing inks
The printing inks used for envelopes are solvent-free flexo print watercolours which are applied to the paper without additional drying. Our own ink mixing equipment allows us to meter the ink quantity precisely. Remaining inks are used for inside printing.
Glues
All the glues we use are dispersions, some of which are mixed with natural starches. Glue residues are taken back by our suppliers and disposed of in conformity with the law.
Window film
The film material for envelope windows consists of biaxially stretched polystyrene. This material is giving a better classification by the Swiss Agency for the Environment, Forests and Landscape (BUWAL) in its ecological assessment than pergamin.
Packaging
The use of reusable packaging and interchangeable frame pallets means that packaging material is used multiple times as far as possible and where sensible.
Production
The production process should correspond to state-of-the-art technology and be undertaken with ecologically aspects in mind. Our production plants are equipped with TÜV-tested noise insulation and we naturally comply with the SUVA rules. Production waste is sorted and recycled. Production waste water is purified in line with the regulations through the public three-stage purification plant. The buildings are heated using natural gas, contributing to a reduction in greenhouse gases. Energy consumption is reduced on a sustained basis by means of heat recovery plants.
Shipping
Goods are shipped at home and abroad as ecologically as possible. Transport capacities are optimised by the shipping company we use and empty trips are reduced to a minimum. PostLogistics, which undertakes our despatch handling, is certified in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard.
Company building
The company building, constructed in 1991, corresponded to the ecological standards of the time and is adapted on an ongoing basis in line with the most modern findings to protect the environment. Heat insulation and the energy balance were maximised and a comprehensive heat recovery system was installed at the vacuum and ventilation systems.
Statutory regulations
The whole production process complies with the statutory regulations, in which the latter are always improved upon as far as possible.
